Stephen John Owen
Stephen John Owen was born in Caernarfon in 1959 and now lives in Groeslon. He is a self-taught artist whose work has been heavily influenced by the landscapes and seascapes of his home, particularly in Anglesey, where he spent many long school summers at his grandmother's house in Church Bay. He displayed a talent for art from an young age and was encouraged to paint by his art teacher, the renowned Welsh artist William Selwyn.
Painting with acrylics, Stephen's style is distinctive, capturing the simplicity of Welsh life or the wildness of our rural environment. He expertly portrays the character and essence of farms, villages and traditional cottages, using bold and contrasting colours.
The painting in this latest exhibition at Mimosa are of northern scenes and rugged vistas, in which Stephen has captured the sprit of Wales and Welshness in a way that only he can.
