Sian McGill
Sian McGill is currently based on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, with Wales being her country of birth in 1973. Having gained a degree in English at Swansea University, she resorted to her childhood artistic passion and discovered painting to be her true calling.
Sian's choice of medium is acrylic, with her predominant source of inspiration being her most comforting environment; the outdoors, where she revels in the coastline and mountains. She often depicts the Welsh landscape, but also loves to capture the scenes of Scotland, Cornwall and Ireland.
Her work is a response to the natural world, with an attempt to exude the energy and sentiment of places she has visited, often painting 'en plein air' to truly engage with what's before her, as well as in her home studio from a photograph.
Being an expressive and intuitive painter, she works with different tools such as a palette knife, brushes, or fingertips and loves to experiment with mark-making, colour and texture to create a variety of effects. This often creates a degree of unpredictability, enabling the paintings to emerge almost by themselves, forming captivating and highly original artwork.
Sian regularly exhibits at galleries across the UK and internationally, and has had work selected for the Royal Cambrian Academy.
