Hywel Harries

Hywel Harries was born in Tumble, Carmarthenshire in 1921. He attended Llanelli Art School before obtaining his diploma in Cardiff Technical College in 1947. His teaching positions included Art Master at a Machynlleth secondary school in 1950, before moving on a few years later to become head of the art department in Ardwyn Grammar School, Aberystwyth. Hywel produced paintings throughout his teaching career, constantly experimenting in style, creating many landscapes and townscapes inspired by the scenery of Wales. He passed away in November 1990.
