Andrew Douglas-Forbes and Sallie Wakley are having a joint exhibition. Andrew will be exhibiting a series of new paintings and Sallie will have a collection of new sculptures.

Andrew Douglas-Forbes

Andrew Douglas-Forbes started painting from a very early age. He was extremely fortunate to be taught privately by Gordon Stuart, the eminent Canadian/Welsh painter. Andrew then attended Swansea Art College to expand his artistic knowledge. His unique approach to creating an artwork is to lay down initial abstract mark making and develop forms that 'emerge' into a finished piece.

In his own words, Andrew's work for this exhibition 'focuses heavily on winter moving to spring and the feelings imbued, fascination with the low lying sun that influences midwinter, still life and its quietude. This is my favourite time of year, when everything is asleep; slowly life re-emerges, filling my long painting days with endless sketching and watching. Especially winter dusks, the only time of year I may use artificial light, which I have turned to my advantage as it evokes 'inside ' and a strong and unsaid sense of evening. The paintings reflect these qualities in their simplicity, creating icons of solace and contemplation. The everydayness of things is my primary objective as a painter, the comfort it offers and the repetition of familiar objects that records time passing by their very constant presence in my work'.

Here are some of the paintings to be exhibited by Andrew;

Sallie Wakley

Sallie was born in Surrey but but grew up in the West Country. In 1986 she moved to Wales to study Wildlife Illustration followed by two years of Ceramics, by which time Sallie had fallen in love with the wild Welsh hills. She has a cottage on a wooded hillside in Carmarthenshire, which she shares with her four rescue dogs, seven cats and a dozen chickens.

Sallie’s work comes from her lifelong passion for animals and nature. Each piece is as individual as the animals she portrays, starting with the clay and glazes that she makes from her own recipes. Sallie creates a whole range of animals, although she regularly returns to her favourites, the fox and the hare.

Below are some of the animal sculptures Sallie will be showing in this exhibition;
