Stephen John Owen was born in Caernarfon and is a self taught artist. Partly brought up by his grandparents in Anglesey he was inspired to paint by his aunt and he still uses her pallet knife and brushes today, in a bid to hang on to some of the flare and romance she introduced to him through painting. His work, both rural and urban, shows a distinct and individual style and passion, and his bold use of colours mixed with his interpretive style has ensured his work has become so recognisable in the Welsh Art scene.
