Robert Harrison is a Welsh artist living in Neath. He studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol where he achieved a degree in art and design. After a post-graduate course at Cardiff University, he taught art at a comprehensive school in Hertfordshire before becoming a full-time artist. He exhibits in galleries across South Wales.
Harrison uses fast-drying alkyd oil paints applied with a palette knife over a textured surface. Various implements and techniques are employed to obtain a multi-layered effect and subtle nuances of colour and texture. His paintings are almost entirely based on the Welsh landscape.
"I begin by carefully analysing the structure of my subject and then I invent a framework or construction to reveal the hidden architecture within. The desired outcome is to find the subject's abstract counterpart and fuse the two into a clear unified whole."
